Bugiri Municipality Councilors Lock Up Assistant Town Clerk Over Alleged Poor Service Delivery
Councilors from the Eastern Division in Bugiri Municipality locked up the assistant town clerk, Henry Nsubuga, over allegations of abuse of office.
The councilors accused Nsubuga of failing to address persistent issues in the division, including poor garbage collection, despite consistent revenue contributions from the community.
They also faulted him for a lack of a clear plan to repair damaged roads, which they claim has strained the relationship between the political leaders and the electorate demanding better services
The protest, led by Eastern Division Deputy Speaker Robert Egesa, escalated as the councilors physically locked Nsubuga in his office.
Egesa stated that Nsubuga’s failure to organize meetings to address service delivery issues has frustrated efforts to harmonize administrative protocols, leaving the councilors with no choice but to act
Stephen Singidi, the L.C.III Chairperson of Eastern Division, echoed Egesa’s sentiments, accusing Nsubuga of undermining the councilors in front of division staff, which he said demoralizes their efforts to establish a functional working relationship.
However, the protests continued as councilors loudly demanded his removal from office
Speaking briefly after his release, Nsubuga dismissed the councilors’ actions as misguided, accusing them of attempting to tarnish his reputation
