Kawempe North MP Muhammad Ssegirinya Dead
Kawempe North Member of Parliament Muhammad Ssegirinya has died. The opposition MP, who represented the National Unity Platform (NUP), passed away on Thursday, January 9, 2025, at Rubaga Hospital in Kampala.
He had recently returned to Uganda from Aga Khan Hospital, where he had been receiving treatment.
“It is sad, we lost him (Ssegirinya),” said a family member at Rubaga hospital.
Ssegirinya, widely known for his activism and candid nature, rose to prominence as a vocal advocate for human rights and social justice.
Affectionately referred to as “Mr. Update” due to his social media presence, he captured the hearts of many Ugandans with his dedication to serving the underprivileged.
Born in 1988 in Masaka District, Ssegirinya grew up in a humble background.
He often spoke of his childhood struggles and how poverty shaped his determination to fight for the marginalized. Initially raised as a Catholic, he later converted to Islam and adopted the name Muhammad.
