Boda Operator Arrested Over Rape in Kakira Plantation

Police in Kakira have arrested a boda boda operator accused of raping a 25-year-old female passenger.
The suspect, identified by his alias Azabo, from Magamaga Town Council in Mayuge District, is currently detained at Kakira Central Police Station.
Azabo, 29, is allegedly assaulted the victim, who had hired his services to travel from Magamaga to Bugembe in Jinja City, on the night of January 12, 2025.
According to Kiira Region Police spokesperson James Mubi, upon reaching Kakira Roundabout, Acidri deviated from the agreed route and headed towards a swampy area.
“The victim reportedly resisted and screamed for help, grabbing the rider’s jacket, which caused them to fall. Acidri then dragged her into the swamp where he assaulted her,” Mubi said.
“Fortunately, police officers on night patrol, supported by security guards from Industrial Security Services (ISS) of Madhvani Group, caught the suspect in the act and rescued the victim. The victim is currently receiving medical treatment, and Acidri, who has undergone medical examination, has been declared of sound mind,” Mubi stated.
In response to this incident, the Kiira Regional Police Command, led by SSP Charles Nsaba, plans to organise refresher training for boda boda riders in Jinja City and Jinja District.
“The training will focus on enhancing customer safety, road safety precautions, discipline, and the dangers of engaging in criminal activities including rape and robbery,” he said.
Police have reiterated their commitment to combating crime in the area, including fighting gender-based violence and sexual abuse.
