Family of Late Kangave Musaazi Embroiled In Nakaseke Land Wrangle
A dispute has erupted between the family of the late Ignatius Kangave Musaazi, the founder of Uganda’s first political party, the Uganda National Congress, and Marwa Properties Limited over the ownership of 10 square miles of land in Kinyogogga Sub-County, Nakaseke District
Merrian Kirabo Musaazi, the granddaughter of the late Musaazi, expressed frustration over the company’s actions
She stated that the Ministry of Lands, Housing, and Urban Development had previously lost the company’s title, repeating the families’ ownership
However, the company, allegedly supported by Presidential Assistant on Special Duties, Phionah Barungi, has blocked them from utilizing the land
Kirabo noted that the families’ plans to develop the land for coffee and sugarcane planting are now stalled
Richard Kaaya, Kaaya’s son, echoed the concerns, criticizing Barungi for issuing orders without hearing their side
The families are now appealing to Lands Minister Sam Mayanja for intervention
Presidential Assistant Phionah Barungi has maintained her directive to close all activities on the land until investigations into rightful ownership are concluded, citing the need to prevent potential violence
