Singer Vyroota arrested for procuring abortion, police confirm

Uganda Police Force have confirmed the arrest of singer Vyroota on charges of procuring an abortion.
According to Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson Patrick Onyango, the 21-year-old Maria singer is accused of impregnating a yet-to-be-identified girl.
Reports suggest that when the girl informed him about the pregnancy, Vyroota expressed reluctance to embrace fatherhood and proposed an abortion instead.
The girl reportedly opposed Vyroota’s suggestion and escalated the matter to his manager, identified as Walugembe, hoping for intervention.
However, the manager sided with the singer, and the two allegedly convinced the girl to terminate the pregnancy.
The abortion was carried out successfully, but the incident angered the girl’s parents, who later reported the matter to the authorities.
Following the complaint, Vyroota and his manager were arrested and detained at Kira Division Police as investigations into the allegations commenced.
