UNEB Highlights Inclusivity with Surge in Special Needs CandidatesMinister Janet Museveni

The Minister for Education, Mrs Janet Museveni, has released the Primary Leaving Examinations results for 2024.

The Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) has reported a 25.5% increase in the number of special needs candidates sitting for the 2024 Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE). A total of 3,328 special needs learners participated, reflecting growing awareness and inclusivity in Uganda’s education system.

Inclusivity extended to prison facilities, where 108 inmates from Luzira and Mbarara Main Prisons also took part in the exams, achieving notable results in Division 1 and Division 2.

UNEB recorded the lowest absentee rate in five years at just 1.3%, signaling improved student retention and engagement across the country.

While the overall performance improved, gaps remain in subject-specific proficiency. Girls excelled in English, with 89.6% achieving a minimum pass compared to 86.9% of boys.

However, boys outperformed girls in Mathematics, Integrated Science, and Social Studies.

The 2024 PLE results underscore strides in inclusivity and participation while highlighting areas for improvement to achieve higher proficiency levels across all subjects.
