First Lady Implores Women to Involve Husbands in Developmental Plans

The First Lady, also the Minister of Education and Sports has tipped women on the importance of involving their husbands in all developmental plans they have at home.  

Janet Kataha Museveni who had accompanied her husband President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni for the presidential zonal tour in Lango sub region was addressing beneficiaries of the Parish Development Model (PDM) program.

Having interacted with women who received money and have successfully implemented the program, the first lady explained that working together as a couple would bring up a stronger team.

“As we work together, and depend on each other, the man shouldn’t feel left out. They should feel that they are working together with their wives as a team and they are bringing up a stronger family that way.” She said.

The First lady applauded the female PDM beneficiaries in Lango for involving their husbands in the implementation of the program saying getting men involved in such economic program inserts a sense of belonging and foster development.

She argued that sidelining men from such programs like PDM will result into a weaker society which is pro- development.

Meanwhile after interacting with the 22 PDM beneficiaries from Kole and Lira District, President Museveni directed PDM secretariat and the District production team to find an immediate solution to the problem of lack of water for production.

He explained that farmers cannot rely on communal dams for keeping animals as the waters may carry diseases.

Earlier in the day, the beneficiaries especially those keeping animals had highlighted the issue of water as a major challenge. Vicky Apio, a beneficiary from Alingiri cell, Banya Ward in Amach Town council who is keeping 10 sheep on her 3 acre- piece of land on top of growing maize said her animals are at risk of getting lost when they roam around looking for water.

Another beneficiary from Akaidebe Cell in Kole Town Council, Rose Akoi, who now has 3 pigs, 6 goats, and a bull asked the president to get her water for production saying the only borehole in the village is far away from her home.

The president then instructed the State House Comptroller to ensure that each of the two women has a borehole drilled near their home on top of giving them a cash donation of 15 million shillings each.

On Wednesday, the President is expected to preside over the breaking ceremony for the construction of Akiibua stadium in Lira City before proceeding to Kwania district where he will meet different leaders from across Lango sub-region.
