Local council leaders in Pader District are holding onto hope despite ongoing delays in receiving their payments and ex-gratia payments. After nearly two years of waiting, lower government leaders remain positive that the government will fulfill its financial obligations.

The government has allocated 271.86 million Shillings to clear arrears from the 2023/24 financial year, and another 323.38 million shillings has been set aside for the first three quarters of 2024/25.

With the approval of these funds, local leaders continue to wait for the disbursement, which has caused frustration.

Walter Okumu, the Ogom Village Chairperson in Angagura Sub-County, warned that if payments are not made soon, they may be prompted to stage peaceful demonstrations

Walter Omona, a village chairperson in Acolibur Town Council, remains disbelieving about the disbursement when the government officials are ever promising but they get paid
