Fuel Tanker Catches Fire in Nebbi District
The incident occurred at around 5:00 PM, according to Sunday Olweny, an eyewitness. “We just saw smoke, then fire followed immediately. People started running and taking pictures,” he said

A fuel tanker burst into flames on Saturday evening in Nyaravur-Angal Town Council, Nebbi District, along the Pakwach–Nebbi highway.
The incident occurred at around 5:00 PM, according to Sunday Olweny, an eyewitness. “We just saw smoke, then fire followed immediately. People started running and taking pictures,” he said.
It is believed that the fuel tanker was en route to the Democratic Republic of Congo when the fire broke out. By press time, there was no police presence on the scene, as residents gathered to witness the plumes of smoke billowing from the burning vehicle. Last month, a devastating fire swept through the business hub of Nebbi Municipality, leaving a trail of destruction.
The back-to-back incidents have sparked renewed calls for establishing stable and better-equipped fire response units in the greater Nebbi area.
Residents argue that relying on the regional fire center in Arua is unsustainable in emergencies. West Nile regional police spokesperson Collins Asea confirmed the incident.
“Our officers are responding to a scene where a fuel tanker has caught fire along the Pakwach–Nebbi road. Details to follow. By this communication, the regional fire officer is hereby informed,” he added. Further details are still emerging.
