The victim, Bazibu Charles, a resident of Busuubo in Innula Parish, says he was cut four times in the early hours of the morning.

A man in his 40s is nursing multiple wounds after allegedly being attacked by his wife with a hand hoe while he slept in Gumpi Subcounty, Buyende District. The victim, Bazibu Charles, a resident of Busuubo in Innula Parish, says he was cut four times in the early hours of the morning.

“It was around 2 a.m. when she cut me,” Bazibu said. “She hit me on the shoulders, head, and other parts of my body. But by God’s grace, I managed to overpower her and call for help. We were actually preparing to host visitors for Easter the following morning.”

The suspect, Juliet Kwagala, claimed she was overcome by a strange force. In her statement, she said: “We were lying on the bed discussing various issues. I don’t know how I ended up cutting him. I just saw four people appear in front of me and in my mind. I called him three times, ‘Sweetheart, have you seen the people coming?’ but he said no.”

Michael Kasadha, the Busoga North police spokesperson, confirmed the incident in a phone interview. He said the case has been registered and cautioned families to resolve conflicts peacefully: “Domestic violence leads to the breakdown of families and hinders development in society.” The case mirrors a string of similar violent incidents in the region.

In February 2025, police in Kamuli arrested Kevin Nabirye, 35, for allegedly trying to murder her wife by cutting off his genitals. In another case, a domestic dispute over TikTok videos reportedly escalated into a violent confrontation.

The Busoga North region has been flagged for rising domestic violence, with both men and women falling victim to extreme physical assaults. A 2024 police report documented 14,073 cases of domestic violence across the country, many involving life-threatening injuries.
