Police Hunt for Assailants Behind Brutal Murder of Six-Year-Old Girl in Kakumiro

According to information gathered by the Uganda Radio Network (URN), the child had gone to collect firewood with two other children when they were attacked by the assailants.

Police in Kakumiro District are hunting for unknown assailants who brutally murdered a six-year-old girl in Isunga village, Kibiijjo sub-county, on Monday evening. The victim has been identified as Joyce Tusemerirwe, daughter of Gideon Tumwesigye and Flavia Katushabe, residents of the same area.

According to information gathered by the Uganda Radio Network (URN), the child had gone to collect firewood with two other children when they were attacked by the assailants. The two managed to escape, but Tusemerirwe was captured and hacked to death for unknown reasons. Her body was later found dumped in nearby bushes. 

Her father, Gideon Tumwesigye, said he launched a search after being alerted by the two survivors that Tusemerirwe had been taken by unidentified attackers. Tragically, she was found dead with multiple deep cuts to the head, face, and neck.

The horrific incident has sent shockwaves through the community, with residents now living in fear and demanding swift action from security agencies.

Ephrahim Bitagase, the LC3 Chairperson for Kibiijjo sub-county, condemned the act and cautioned parents against sending young children alone to collect firewood. 

He also urged the police to investigate the incident thoroughly and ensure the perpetrators are brought to justice.

Julius Hakiza, the Albertine Region Police Spokesperson, confirmed the incident and said detectives from Kakumiro Central Police Station have been dispatched to the area to begin investigations.

Hakiza appealed to community members and local leaders to cooperate with police and share any information that may lead to the arrest of the suspects. 

He added that the body of the deceased was transported to Kakumiro Health Centre IV for postmortem before being handed over to the family for burial arrangements.
