It is a moment of pride and celebration in the Busoga Royal Family, and the Kyabazinga of Busoga, William Gabula Nadiope IV, earns his second master’s degree—this time a Master of Advanced Studies in Global Affairs from the prestigious Jackson School of Global Affairs, Yale University.

The news of the Kyabazinga’s academic milestone sent jubilation across Busoga and beyond on Monday, with thousands of well-wishers taking to X (formerly Twitter), WhatsApp, Instagram, and other social media platforms to congratulate their monarch.

An ardent advocate of education, the Kyabazinga continues to inspire his subjects and Ugandan youth by leading by example. This latest academic achievement, from one of the world’s top Ivy League universities, reflects his unwavering commitment to knowledge and personal development, regardless of royal stature.

He already holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Coventry University, UK, and a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Kyambogo University, Uganda. According to palace sources, he is also in his third year of pursuing a Doctorate in Business Administration (Strategic Management) at the University of Portsmouth, UK.

His scholarship at Yale was merit-based and fully funded, underscoring the monarch’s academic competence and leadership promise. The Kyabazinga now joins the ranks of global leaders who have passed through Yale’s halls, including Nelson Mandela, former U.S. presidents Bill Clinton, George H. W. Bush, George W. Bush, and current U.S. Vice President DJ Vance, among others. Yale University consistently ranks among the top 5 institutions in the United States and the top 10 globally.

According to Owek. Babirye Yudaya, Minister for Kyabazinga Affairs, and Prince Paul Wanume, a lecturer at Uganda Management Institute (UMI), this new qualification positions the Kyabazinga to significantly contribute to development initiatives and tackle major global and regional challenges.

The Kyabazinga is already a national champion against malaria, a UNAIDS Goodwill Ambassador promoting the fight against teenage pregnancies, and a leading voice in raising awareness around hydrocephalus in the region. “The Master’s degree in Global Affairs is timely,” said Prince Wanume. “It elevates His Majesty’s capacity to influence global policy discussions and lead Busoga into a new era of socio-economic transformation.”

The Kyabazinga was highly commended by professors at Yale for completing the program in record time and with distinction, all while continuing to fulfill his kingdom duties. He was accompanied by his beloved Queen, Inhebantu Jovia Mutesi Nadiope, who has been by his side throughout his studies in the United States.

Also present at the graduation were members of the royal family, the Busoga Kingdom Prime Minister (Katuukiro), Owek. Dr. Joseph Muvawala, the Hereditary Chief of Butembe, Prince Walugembe Frederick, and Ivan Kiirya, the State Minister for Finance in Busoga Kingdom, among others. The Kyabazinga credits much of his drive for academic excellence to his parents. His mother, Josephine Mpata Nadiope, was a water and environmental engineer trained at the University of Florida, while his late father, Prof. Arnold Wilson Nadiope III, earned his doctorate from George Washington University, USA.
