The Police in Rukungiri have instituted investigations into circumstances following alleged theft of a gun with 30 rounds of ammunitions by unknown suspects. 

Kigezi Regional Police Spokesman Elly Maate has confirmed the incident saying that the theft took place yesterday 26th July 2025 at Rwakaraba Police Post in Nyakishenyi Sub-county in Rukungiri district.

It’s alleged that Police Constable No 83982 Muyambi Pius reported for normal duty at Rwakaraba Police Post and while his rifle was kept in his inner room next to Police Post counter, he went for supper at a hotel of approximately 60 meters away from the Police Post, leaving the gun in his bedroom. Â

Its reported that after supper, Muyambi returned to the place of work, only to realize that his place had been broken into and his gun stolen and he immediately alerted those in the neighborhood who went at scene and confirmed the Incident and then thereafter alerted his Oofficer in Charge of the Police Post who had booked out for medication. 

The scene of crime was visited by Officer in Charge Rukungiri Central Police Station with the K-9 team, but no positive results were obtained and Muyambi was subsequently arrested for questioning.

Maate explained that investigations are ongoing and appealed to the general public to remain security conscious and  asked them that should they see any suspicious object or person with a gun, they should immediately bring it to the notice of local leaders or relevant offices so that the suspects are apprehended and charged accordingly.
