Driver Who Shot Minor Not Security Personnel-Police
The driver who shot and injured a 12-year-old boy along Bombo Road is not joined with any security agency, the Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson, Patrick Onyango, has confirmed.
The suspect, identified as 50-year-old contractor Muhammad Kitata, a resident of Kawempe Ttula, was arrested over the weekend
However, a stray bullet struck Edrine Babalanda, a passenger in a nearby taxi.
Kitata, who was driving a Toyota Harrier number UBQ 699B fled the scene after learning someone had been injured
He was later apprehended, and police recovered the pistol believed to have been used in the incident during a search of his home
Edrine Babalanda, the injured boy, was initially rushed to a nearby clinic by his father, Moses Babalanda, and later referred to Mulago Hospital for further treatment
Preliminary investigations revealed that Kitata is a citizen who legally acquired the firearm under existing gun ownership laws
This contradicts earlier reports suggesting the suspect was a member of a security agency #Cityfm96NewsUpdates
