Born Baby Boy Kidnapped Hours After Birth in Hoima

Police and Kigorobya Health Centre IV in Hoima District have launched a search following the disappearance of a baby boy shortly after birth.

Florence Nyangoma, the missing baby’s mother, tearfully recounted the incident at Kigorobya Health Centre IV. She said a young woman approached her at around 7 p.m. yesterday and took the baby, claiming she was taking him for immunisation.

“Because I was still weak, a young lady approached me saying she was helping me to take the baby for immunisation. I gave her the baby, but until now, I can’t trace his whereabouts,” Nyangoma narrated.

Nyangoma said she became suspicious and alerted the health centre administration, who joined the search. However, the baby remains missing.

The 35-year-old mother, a resident of Kyeramya Village in Kiganja Parish, Kigorobya Sub-County, had safely delivered her baby at around 10 a.m. yesterday. All seemed well until the kidnap occurred.

She described the suspect as a slender young woman speaking Runyoro and wearing lip makeup. Nyangoma added that her caretaker had stepped out of the health facility to buy supplies at the time of the incident.

The hospital administration confirmed that the baby had been safely handed over to his mother after delivery but expressed shock over the unfortunate turn of events.

Julius Hakiza, the Albertine Regional Police Spokesperson, said police are investigating the incident, which was reported at Kigorobya Police Post.

“Our territorial police have registered the case, and they are deploying officers to investigate the matter. We advise parents never to trust strangers with their babies unless they are dressed in hospital uniform,” Hakiza said.

Efforts to locate the missing baby are ongoing as authorities intensify the search.
