Travel Agency Owner Arrested for Defrauding Job Seekers Millions

Old Kampala Police Station is holding JorumKawesi, the owner of Century Tours and Travel agency on allegations of deceiving millions of shillings from individuals seeking jobs abroad.Â
The job seekers allege they were conned out of between three to fivemillion Shillings each, after being promised well-paid job opportunities in Canada, Dubai, and Qatar three years ago.Â
Sarah Twaha, one of the victims, revealed that she paid 5 million Shillings for herself and for each of her two brothers, under the impression they would secure jobs in Canada in 2023
She was convinced to make these payments after seeing the company’s advertisement on a popular television station, which led her to believe the company was legitimate.
Sarah further revealed that the company had collected their passports and other essential documents but abruptly closed its offices without returning them
This situation prompted the victims to seek help from the police
Rahumah Musenero, from Mbale district, recounted being referred to the company by a coworker who had also made a payment
Unfortunately, they are now both stuck, having paid substantial amounts with no results
Other victims have appealed to the Ministry of Internal Affairs to intervene in the matter, citing concerns
