Kwania Police shot dead a 22-year-old suspected criminal in an early morning incident.
The deceased, identified as Desmond Okao, was a resident of Albany Cell, Teduka Ward in Aduku Town Council, Kwania District.
According to reports, Okao and a group of about 30 individuals, who were returning from a disco at Brun’s Night Club, blocked the road and began ambushing pedestrians leading to a police intervention.
Eyewitnesses claim that the youths had been fighting on the road for hours before police arrived. Officers reportedly fired six warning shots to disperse the group, but Okao was fatally shot in the process.
Geoffrey Okello, the Internal Security Officer (GISO) of Aduku Town Council, confirmed the incident, stating that Okao was part of a gang that had been terrorizing the community.
Jimmy Uhuru, the Local Council I (LCI) chairperson of Aduku Township Cell, noted that the area has been experiencing rising cases of robbery, assault, and rape linked to youth gangs. He urged young people to be law-abiding and to avoid roaming at night.
Okao’s body was taken to Aduku Health Center IV Mortuary for a postmortem examination.
