Atingi-Ego, the newly appointed Central Bank Governor

President Yoweri Museveni has appointed Dr Micheal Atingi-Ego Governor of the Bank of Uganda.

The hitherto Deputy Governor replaces the late Emmanuel Tumusiime Mutebile, who died in January 2021, after a long illness.

Economist Dr Augustus Nuwagaba becomes the Deputy Governor, according to Sandor Walusimbi, the Senior Presidential Press Secretary.

This ends years of speculation and uncertainty as to why the president had neither appointed a substantive governor nor an acting one.
