A 30‑year‑old woman, Adonga Narupei, has been murdered in Nakomoliwaret village, Tapac Sub‑County, Moroto District. Narupei, who operated a retail shop in the trading center near a mining area, was reportedly raped and strangled to death by unknown assailants on February 7, 2025, at approximately 9 pm.

Her body was discovered on February 8, 2025, around 1600 hours, dumped along a murram road amidst stones, over 200 meters away from her residence. Joseph Pulkol, the LC3 chairperson of  Tapac sub-county said that the assailants raped and killed Adonga on her way back home from the shop in the evening hours.

Pulkol described the deceased as a polite person who concentrated so much on her business and it was a shock to find her lifeless body dumped along the road. He appealed to the community to look out for the suspect behind this murder and report them to the authorities.

Pulkol observed that there is an influx of people from different regions who are mining gold and marble in his sub-county, which is fueling security threats. Pulkol noted that he plans to engage the village leadership to find possible solutions on how to handle the influx of new people in the community.

Mike Longole, the Mt Moroto police spokesperson said that they are investigating the incident and called for community cooperation to provide the leads. Longole said that police were notified over the matter, and a team of detectives visited the scene.

Longole noted that no arrests have been made but the intelligence team is on the ground to establish the leads. He revealed the incident was reported late to police and the canine dog could not do much since the scene was already tampered with.

‘’A post-mortem examination was conducted, and the body was handed over to the relatives for burial as we continued. We are working closely with the community and other stakeholders to ensure that the perpetrators are apprehended and that justice is served’’ Longole said.
