Mountains of the Moon University Asks Gov’t to Boost Infrastructure

The University’s Vice Chancellor Prof. Pius Coxwell Achanga noted that the government commenced the construction of buildings for the faculty of Agriculture at 65 billion Shillings but only 9 billion shillings have been availed.

Mountains of the Moon University-MMU has asked the government to support the completion of the faculty of agriculture and tarmacking of the Kabundaire-Saaka road. 

Speaking at the 16th graduation ceremony on Friday at the University’s main campus in Saaka, the University’s Vice Chancellor Prof. Pius Coxwell Achanga noted that the government commenced the construction of buildings for the faculty of Agriculture at 65 billion Shillings but only 9 billion shillings has been availed.

He noted that if completed, the faculty will have 11 laboratories and accommodate over 4,000 students.

Achanga also said that the university is focused on having courses in Agriculture, Tourism and Environmental Conservation for social-economic transformation and is now set to have the first doctorate program of philosophy in Agroecological science.Â

The University Chancellor, prof. Edward Rugumayo applauded the government for its support but prayed that the government urgently supports the construction of the agriculture faculty noting that it is essential in meeting the government’s goal of improving science and innovation.Â

He also noted that the University received an offer from well-wishers to support the construction of a teaching hospital but these have raised concerns over the poor state of the road to the University.

Margaret Muhanga who is the Member of Parliament for the North Division in Fort Portal Tourism City said she would take the concerns to the President but added that she had presented the issue of the road to the Ministry of Works and to the Chief of Defence Forces who have promised to extend support.Â

The theme for this year’s graduation was; Technological Advancement for Enhancing Higher Education in Agriculture, Tourism and Environment.Â

In 2022, the university was taken over by the government as a public institution.
